A World Affair: International Passport Celebrations

PASSPORT CELEBRATIONS RESCHEDULED TO
BEGIN IN THE FALL

ICCR will be teaming up with the Linda, WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio, in Albany and the Central Avenue BID to hold four events starting in September 2015 each with a distinctive theme that will highlight the history, art, food and music of a particular country/culture. The first is scheduled for Thursday, September 24th and will highlight Japan. Followed by India on December 3rd, and Brazil and Kenya in 2016. Event Passports will be distributed to those in attendance at each celebration. The small booklet will contain a page for each participating entity (artists, restaurants and organizations), with questions having to do with the evening’s theme. Attendees will be able to go to the different booths where they will find the answer to the question and have their "passport" stamped. Those who answer all the questions will have their names entered into a drawing for prizes.  Join us for these fun festive celebrations of the world’s unique and diverse cultures.

Taking major steps on LI’s merlot scene
 By Bill Dowd

Deborah Brenner has been named executive director of the Long Island Merlot Alliance (LIMA), one of several announcements made by the organization this week. The others are the hiring of Robin Epperson-McCarthy as research fellow, and the creation of the Merliance Wine Trail.

LIMA was created in 2005 to propagate information about the merlot and merlot-based blends produced on Long Island. The trade organization says part of its mission is “to promote the full potential of the Long Island appellation in producing superior quality, age-worthy, balanced, classic merlot and merlot based blends to consumers and media worldwide.”
